  • The EU has released €4.2 billion in previously frozen funds to Hungary, adding substantial new cross-border liquidity.
  • Hungary has regained access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe, restoring regulatory clarity for students and researchers.
  • USD/HUF trades with a strong bullish bias across all timeframes, projected to consolidate in the Ft325.8371 to Ft329.1119 range over the next few days.

EU fund release boosts liquidity as Hungary regains academic access

The Council of the European Union has concluded its 2022 conditionality mechanism against Hungary, unlocking €4.2 billion in formerly frozen EU funds for the country and reinstating access to the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes for Hungarian students and researchers, according to Euronews. The release of these funds introduces substantial new cross-border liquidity, which is likely to impact Hungary’s fiscal position and could influence capital flows in the short term. Restoration of access to EU academic and research initiatives further signals regulatory clarity and may encourage longer-term investment sentiment towards Hungary.

Overbought momentum persists as technical supports outweigh caution

On the hourly chart, USD/HUF is trading above the MA-20 and MA-50, while on the daily chart, it is positioned above the MA-200. Immediate support is provided by the Ichimoku Kijun at Ft325.6002. Among momentum signals, RSI stands at 73.28 and ADX is in Buy mode, whereas MACD remains Neutral. Overbought readings are evident from Stoch RSI, CCI, and Bull/Bear Power, all pointing to strong buyer dominance on an intraday basis. The Awesome Oscillator shows a Strong Buy, underlining the prevailing bullish bias, although several oscillators recommend caution due to stretched momentum conditions.

High upside risk as consolidation expected within defined range

USD/HUF is expected to consolidate within the Ft325.8371 to Ft329.1119 range over the next two to three trading days. The probability of a further upward move is currently classified as very high, while the likelihood of a near-term decline is very low. If the baseline scenario holds, price action may remain range-bound in line with typical volatility. Should resistance be breached, a bullish scenario could see new highs established, whereas a drop below support would open a bearish price path.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, analyst at Traders Union, sees the EU’s decision to release €4.2 billion and restore Hungary’s access to educational programs as a fresh boost for sentiment and capital inflows. He believes this regulatory clarity strengthens the fundamental case for HUF assets. However, the current market remains technically overbought and near key resistance levels. Short-term flows may stay volatile, but the fundamental picture is increasingly positive. "With stronger macro underpinnings and renewed EU support, I see scope for further HUF appreciation if consolidation holds above Ft325.6002."

Earlier, analysts noted that persistent bullish momentum and technical strength underpinned upward pressure in USD/HUF. The current developments add a fundamental catalyst to the outlook, making the upcoming breach or defense of the Ft329.1119 resistance level a key trigger for near-term direction.
