Highlights

  • French government bond sell-off pushed eurozone yields higher, resulting in tighter financing conditions and euro liquidity constraints.
  • French market volatility and elevated energy costs are sustaining high inflation risks ahead of the European Central Bank meeting.
  • EUR/BRL trades under key moving averages with multiple bearish momentum signals, setting an expected range of R$5.5611 to R$5.6169 and limited rebound prospects.

French bond sell-off raises eurozone yields and pressures sentiment

A sharp sell-off in French government bonds has driven yields higher across the eurozone, tightening borrowing conditions and raising financing costs, according to Euronews. This has created a more restrictive liquidity environment for the euro, weighing on market sentiment and contributing to downside risk for EUR/BRL. Ongoing volatility in French financial markets and elevated energy prices are also keeping inflation risks high in the region, as noted by Money Usnews, further complicating the outlook ahead of the upcoming European Central Bank meeting.

Downward momentum builds as indicators signal oversold conditions

EUR/BRL is positioned below the MA-20 at R$5.65, the MA-50 at R$5.6497, and the MA-200 at R$5.8887 on the hourly chart. The Ichimoku Kijun at R$5.636 represents the nearest resistance point for any recovery attempt. Momentum indicators show a clear sell bias: MACD and ADX continue to point lower, while RSI is deeply oversold at 26.4. Stoch RSI and CCI readings also indicate oversold conditions, with Bull/Bear Power and the Awesome Oscillator confirming persistent seller control and reinforcing the prevailing downward trend.

Range-bound trading likely as upside reversal chances dim

Over the next two to three sessions, EUR/BRL is expected to fluctuate within a volatility band of R$5.5611 to R$5.6169. The probability of an immediate upward reversal is very low, with continued downside seen as highly likely. A bullish scenario would depend on a break above the R$5.636 resistance, but if support near R$5.5611 is breached, the pair may extend its losses. The base case favors stabilization in a sideways range within the stated levels.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees persistent eurozone bond market stress and risk aversion weighing heavily on EUR/BRL. He believes technical signals remain clearly bearish, with sellers in firm control below all key averages. As long as resistance at R$5.636 holds, the analyst expects continued downside with little chance of a swift rebound. "For now, I remain cautious — only a convincing break above R$5.636 would change my view on the pair."

Earlier, analysts noted that EUR/BRL was under persistent bearish pressure, with technical weakness indicating vulnerability to further declines. The current market environment reinforces this outlook, making the R$5.5611 support a critical threshold to watch for potential downside extension in the near term.
