There are many good messengers, but none are perfect.

They are not only a convenient tool for communication but also an essential channel for exchanging information about trades, signals, news, and analytics. In today’s world, the speed and confidentiality of data transmission can directly impact profits, making the requirements for messengers in this field especially high. But do current messengers meet these expectations?

Jack Dorsey’s messenger

Jack Dorsey is a legendary figure in the digital technology world, having created more than one successful product. On July 7, the co-founder of Twitter (now the social network X) unveiled his latest creation — the messenger Bitchat.

According to the project’s white paper, Bitchat is a decentralized messaging protocol that enables encrypted communication and can function without the internet.

Bitchat operates via Bluetooth, using nearby devices to form a mesh network that relays messages from node to node. That is, once a message is sent, it travels through nearby devices that temporarily become network nodes until it reaches the recipient.

Unlike other products on the market, the messenger does not collect metadata. Users remain anonymous, and messages automatically disappear after delivery unless saved by the user.

Bitchat can be used in various situations — from emergencies to cases requiring full anonymity:

- At rallies and protests where the internet is blocked or unavailable;

- In natural disaster zones;

- At confidential meetings;

- In places without mobile coverage.

Many in the market have noticed that the concept of the new messenger echoes that of Bitcoin. Although the project description does not directly mention the leading digital asset, cryptocurrencies, or blockchain, the beginning of the document references the introduction to the Bitcoin White Paper.

Jack Dorsey describes Bitchat as “a decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging application,” while Satoshi Nakamoto defined Bitcoin as “a peer-to-peer version of electronic cash.” Just as Bitcoin requires no intermediaries in finance, Bitchat can ignore centralized control.

The problems with modern messengers

There are countless messengers in the world. The most popular include WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, and Viber. Billions of people use them for chatting, file sharing, and work, but behind the convenience lie serious vulnerabilities and limitations.

One of the biggest problems with modern messengers is the collection of user data. For example, WhatsApp collects metadata, contact lists, and uses them for advertising purposes. Telegram, despite its stated privacy focus, does not use end-to-end encryption by default and also stores information on centralized servers.

Another critical weakness is total dependence on the internet and centralized infrastructure. In cases of network outages or server blocks — as has happened in several countries — users lose the ability to communicate. These messengers are easily subjected to censorship and can be restricted or shut down at the state level.

Additionally, linking accounts to phone numbers compromises anonymity. Anyone who knows your phone number can find out if you use Telegram or WhatsApp and locate your profile. This opens the door to surveillance, harassment, and data leaks. In an era where privacy is increasingly valued, such design choices appear outdated and in need of reevaluation.

Dreams of the ideal messenger

There may be no perfect messenger, but let us imagine what one could look like. A messenger should provide maximum privacy and protect user data from collection and surveillance. No advertising, minimal personal data, and absolutely no access to messages by developers.

A second key criterion is independence from centralized infrastructure and the internet. The ideal messenger should be operational even when the network is down. This is especially relevant in censored countries or during crises when internet access may be limited.

Finally, the messenger should be simple and accessible for everyone. Installation, connection, and communication should not require technical knowledge or complex registration. At the same time, it should be easy to chat one-on-one or in groups, share files, and find people — without having to provide a phone number or share unnecessary information.

Signal is considered one of the messengers closest to the ideal — an open-source application with a strong encryption system that minimizes data collection and provides a high level of privacy. However, despite its advantages, Signal has not become truly mainstream. This is due to its complex interface, phone number requirement, and limited functionality compared to more familiar messengers like WeChat or Viber.

Several months ago, Jack Dorsey reached out to the developers of Signal, suggesting they integrate Bitcoin for peer-to-peer payments. The idea was supported in the comments by many well-known figures, including former PayPal president David Marcus. However, the service is unlikely to implement BTC, as it already offers crypto payments via the privacy-focused altcoin Sentz. Therefore, it is quite possible that Jack Dorsey will eventually integrate Bitcoin into Bitchat.

What the future of communication should be

In the era of digital finance, trading and investment demand not only convenience but also a reliable tool for communication. From the speed of receiving signals to the privacy of analytical discussions — all of this directly affects decision-making and trade outcomes. Misinformation, strategy leaks, or outside interference can cost an investor thousands or even millions of dollars. Therefore, the standards for messengers in this segment are far stricter than in casual chatting.

An example of future communication for financial professionals could be the approach embedded in Bitchat. Its decentralization, independence from the internet, and advanced encryption system lay the foundation for secure information transmission, even under extreme external pressure. This is especially crucial for traders operating in unstable regions, using insider information, or exchanging strategies with partners worldwide.

In this context, the ideal messenger is not just an alternative to WhatsApp or Telegram. It is a communication platform tailored to the high demands of the financial world: stable, autonomous, anonymous, and easy to use. It should operate by the same principles as Bitcoin: without intermediaries, without a central authority, and with respect for user freedom and ownership.
