Detroit event results and buyer participation
As reported by the Small Business Administration, more than 600 small business suppliers take part in the 2026 Detroit Supplier Matchmaking Expo alongside more than three dozen large industrial buyers, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NASA, Ford Motor Company, Google, Honeywell, Toyota and Siemens. The event takes place on May 5, 2026 at the MotorCity Casino in Detroit, where local suppliers meet companies seeking services and products to expand production capacity. Participants join expo floor exhibits and one-on-one matchmaking sessions, with 140 small businesses already matching with a large company to provide services.
SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler says the program supports efforts to reconnect small manufacturers with federal buyers and large companies that are reshoring supply chains. She says the level of expected follow-on business shows the matchmaking expo series is addressing demand for direct access to local suppliers.
Manufacturing policy and expected business impact
Post-event survey results show 82% of participants are satisfied or very satisfied with the expo's effectiveness in procurement networking, while 84% say they would likely or very likely recommend the program to a colleague. The SBA says 48% of respondents expect to generate more than $250,000 in business opportunities over the next 12 months, and 16% anticipate more than $1 million, including 7% expecting more than $5 million in future deals. Participants also praise the quality of matchmaking sessions and the opportunity to build relationships with buyers, procurement professionals and SBA staff.
The Detroit event builds on the agency's inaugural Supplier Matchmaking Expo in Charlotte, North Carolina, and fits into a wider Made in America policy push. The SBA says it waives loan fees for small manufacturers in fiscal 2026, creates its first loan program dedicated to American manufacturers, introduces a 90% Made in America Loan Guarantee and launches the Make Onshoring Great Again Portal to connect small businesses with a database of more than one million domestic suppliers and producers.
The U.S. government’s $725 million conditional loan commitment to Energy Fuels focuses on expanding domestic rare earth separation and metallization capacity to support permanent magnet supply chains. In our earlier coverage, we noted the financing is part of a broader push to reduce dependence on China and reinforce U.S. defense and industrial supply chains, with final funding contingent on due diligence requirements.
