Trump Media expands monetization push as interim CEO targets data, streaming and TAE merger
Trump Media's bold expansion

Trump Media & Technology Group is broadening efforts to turn President Donald Trump's online reach into recurring revenue under interim chief executive Kevin McGurn. The company is pairing a paid high-speed Truth Social data product with a wider strategy spanning streaming, financial services and a planned merger with fusion group TAE Technologies.

Highlights

  • Trump Media launches Truth API charging high-frequency traders $60,000–$100,000 per month, signing about 10 clients since inception.
  • TMTG expands Truth Social into a broader media and streaming network, with a $9.99 Patriot package and plans for original, AI-driven content.
  • TMTG posted a $712.3 million net loss on $3.7 million revenue in 2025; DAUs fell to 261,000 in July from 436,000 last year, while shares rose 15% after API launch but remain down 39% year-on-year.

Revenue strategy across data products and media

As reported by Financial Times, McGurn is leading a plan to charge customers for millisecond-fast access to posts on Truth Social through the new Truth API service, arguing the product is a standard commercial tool for a media platform rather than a channel for insider information.

He says the feed gives users only a slight speed advantage because the posts become public once they are published, and adds that outside groups, including AI companies, are already scraping and redistributing Truth Social content. McGurn says about 10 groups, mostly high-frequency traders, have signed up so far at monthly prices of $60,000 to $100,000, and he sees potential demand from news organizations, hyperscalers, large language model developers and prediction-market operators.

Beyond data licensing, McGurn is also pushing to build a broader media business around Truth Social and the Truth+ streaming platform. He says the company wants to add more creators, expand into sport and lifestyle content, develop AI functions and eventually originate content that can also be distributed through platforms such as YouTube.

TMTG's streaming offer already includes conservative and Christian programming, including channels such as Newsmax, One America News Network and the UK's GB News, alongside a $9.99-a-month Patriot package. McGurn says the goal is to turn the Trump brand into a durable media network that can last beyond Trump's presidency and remain part of his wider business portfolio after 2028.

Shareholder scrutiny and long-term operating risks

TMTG's push comes amid scrutiny on Wall Street over whether monetizing presidential posts creates conflicts of interest, given Trump's indirect stake of about 41% in the Nasdaq-listed company through the Donald J Trump Revocable Trust. McGurn rejects concerns that the service creates legal or regulatory problems, while acknowledging that any effort to make money from the platform draws close attention.

The company is trying to reassure investors while managing a portfolio that now stretches from social media and streaming to cryptocurrency, exchange traded funds under the Truth.Fi brand and a planned merger with TAE Technologies. That fusion deal is targeted to close by the end of 2026 and is expected to lead to a new board, with McGurn describing his interim role as part of the transition from a politically rooted platform to a fully operating media business.

TMTG reported a net loss of $712.3 million in 2025 on revenue of $3.7 million, with much of the loss tied to changes in digital-asset values. Its shares rise 15% over the past month after the Truth API launch, but they remain down 39% over the past year, while Similarweb estimates daily active users for the mobile app at about 261,000 in July, down from more than 436,000 a year earlier.

Those figures underline the central challenge for McGurn's strategy, proving the platform can sustain audience and pricing power after Trump leaves office. He says the business model still holds up and could support higher pricing if the company adds more influential creators whose content carries value for traders, news providers, AI groups and prediction markets.

Our earlier article on the IRS’s new Form 1099-DA reporting framework explained how expanded broker reporting for digital-asset transactions starting in 2025 is expected to give tax authorities far greater visibility into crypto proceeds. We noted that underreporting remains common and that the lack of automatic cost-basis and holding-period reporting makes compliance especially burdensome for active traders using transfers, staking, and crypto-to-crypto activity.
