Trump Media quarterly loss widens as crypto holdings weigh on results
Crypto hits Trump Media

Trump Media & Technology Group is expanding beyond social media as it tries to build new revenue streams around market-sensitive content from Truth Social. The company reports a sharply wider second-quarter loss as unrealized losses on cryptocurrency assets offset rising revenue and the early rollout of its Truth API service.

Highlights

  • Trump Media & Technology Group's Q2 net loss widened to $238.1 million from $20 million last year, driven by unrealized losses on crypto assets.
  • Q2 revenue rose to $1.7 million from $0.9 million, aided by the August 1 launch of Truth API, which charges up to $100,000 per month and has over 10 customer agreements.
  • The company is progressing on its planned merger with TAE Technologies, expanding into energy technology to address artificial intelligence data center power demand.

Second-quarter results and new data product

As reported by Reuters, citing Trump Media & Technology Group, the company’s second-quarter net loss widens to $238.1 million from about $20 million a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter ended June rises to $1.7 million, up from $0.9 million in the same period last year.

The company says the larger loss is largely tied to unrealized losses on digital assets, including cryptocurrencies. Crypto assets face pressure in the April-to-June quarter as investors avoid riskier holdings amid uncertainty over U.S. interest rates, geopolitical tensions and persistent outflows from crypto investment products.

Trump Media is also pursuing revenue from Truth API, a licensed data feed designed to give banks and trading firms rapid access to posts from influential Truth Social accounts, including those of U.S. President Donald Trump. The company has discussed charging as much as $100,000 a month for the product, and says it has signed more than 10 customer agreements for the feed launched on August 1.

Expansion plans and broader business implications

Interim CEO Kevin McGurn says in the statement that Truth API is already generating revenue and that customer sign-ups continue to grow. The product underscores Trump Media’s effort to monetize the market impact of high-profile social media posts as it looks for businesses beyond its core platform.

McGurn also says the company is making progress toward its proposed merger with fusion energy developer TAE Technologies. That planned deal adds an energy technology angle to a business already spanning social media and cryptocurrency, and reflects a broader push to tap demand linked to the power needs of artificial intelligence data centers.

Trump Media’s second-quarter earnings update highlighted a net loss above $238 million, with the deterioration largely attributed to markdowns and volatility in digital assets and related holdings despite a modest rise in revenue. Our earlier article also detailed the rollout of Truth API, noting that the service had already signed more than 10 customer agreements—largely with high-frequency trading firms—at premium monthly pricing for faster access to key Truth Social posts.
