Highlights

  • Joint action by the U.S. and Japan to support the yen has reduced Japan's need to sell U.S. Treasuries for dollars.
  • Diminished Treasury liquidation has removed a source of US Dollar demand, moderating USD strength against other currencies including USD/PEN.
  • USD/PEN trades below key moving averages with strong bearish momentum; projected short-term range is S/3.3463 to S/3.3799 with limited rebound risk.

Joint US-Japan yen action curbs broad dollar demand

A recent joint intervention by the U.S. and Japan to support the Japanese yen has introduced notable shifts in currency market dynamics, according to Timesleader. The U.S. involvement helped stabilize conditions by reducing the need for Japan to liquidate U.S. Treasuries for dollars, thereby removing a significant source of incremental USD demand. This development has contributed to moderating broad US Dollar strength against various currencies, weighing on the USD/PEN pair in the current session.

Momentum skewed lower as multiple oscillators confirm weakness

The technical setup shows USD/PEN trading beneath the MA-20 at S/3.376 and MA-50 at S/3.379 on the hourly chart, as well as below the MA-200 at S/3.4077 on the daily timeframe. The Ichimoku Kijun stands at S/3.3743, marking immediate resistance, with the expected intraday range shaped by this level above. MACD and ADX both indicate a Sell signal, while momentum remains negative. RSI is at 37.55, Stoch RSI is oversold, and CCI is also in oversold territory, pointing to prevailing weakness. Notably, Bull/Bear Power gives a Buy indication, reflecting some intraday buyer presence amid overall selling pressure.

Bearish risks intensify unless key support holds

Looking ahead to the next 2–3 trading days, USD/PEN is likely to consolidate in a volatility band between S/3.3463 and S/3.3799. The probability of an upward breakout is considered very low under current conditions, while further losses are more probable if support near S/3.3463 fails. A bullish reversal scenario would require a break above the immediate resistance at S/3.3743.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees the recent macro intervention by the U.S. and Japan as a turning point for the US Dollar’s recent strength. He notes that technical signals and negative momentum align with the softer USD backdrop caused by reduced international demand. The analyst believes that unless resistance at S/3.3743 is convincingly broken, USD/PEN will stay under pressure. "This coordinated policy action signals more controlled currency markets, so I expect USD/PEN to remain weak and only attempt a bounce if it reclaims key resistance levels," says Karapetjanc.

Earlier, analysts noted that bearish momentum continued to dominate USD/PEN, with sellers firmly in control amid persistent technical weakness. The current session builds on this assessment by highlighting ongoing negative momentum and broad dollar softness, making the S/3.3463 support level a key area for traders to monitor for potential further downside.
