Emergency order for Culley unit operations

According to U.S. Department of Energy, it issued emergency Order No. 202-26-47 on September 18, 2026 under Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act to CenterPoint Energy and Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc., or MISO.

The directive requires the two entities to take all measures necessary to ensure Unit 2 at the F.B. Culley Generating Station is available to operate. It also calls for the use of economic dispatch to minimize costs for the American people.

Implications for Indiana power supply

The action centers on the F.B. Culley facility in Warrick County, Indiana, placing the plant's Unit 2 within a federal reliability framework for nearly three months.

For the power sector, the order signals a short-term operational step aimed at preserving electricity system flexibility while seeking to limit cost impacts through economic dispatch.
