La Salla sets out priorities at SIFMA Ops 2026
As reported by DTCC, chief executive Frank La Salla used remarks at SIFMA Ops 2026 to argue that trust remains the core asset supporting global financial stability and market operations. His speech, titled “Trust Capital: The Most Important Asset,” was later republished in the September 2026 issue of Vital Speeches of the Day.La Salla says market infrastructures have built credibility over many years by helping protect investors and maintain orderly markets through major structural shifts. He presents that record as the basis for DTCC’s next phase of work, which includes better settlement processes, broader market access, digital asset development and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
He also points to the move to T+1 in the U.S. as evidence that the industry can carry out large-scale reform without undermining safety or reliability. In his view, that transition succeeds because firms, regulators and infrastructure providers remain aligned around a shared objective and prepare with discipline.
Broader access raises pressure on resilience
La Salla says investors and financial firms are seeking more flexibility, faster execution and the ability to trade beyond traditional market hours, but he argues that greater speed must not add unnecessary risk. DTCC frames its role as helping capital markets move faster while preserving the safeguards needed to keep systems resilient and trusted. The company also says its value to clients is expanding beyond operational reliability into measurable business impact. DTCC says it is focusing more closely on helping firms reduce friction, use capital and liquidity more efficiently and free capacity for commercial growth as client expectations rise.
On technology, La Salla says digital assets, tokenization and AI are shaping the future of capital markets, but their value depends on how well they connect with existing market standards and infrastructure. He argues that innovation is most useful when it strengthens systems that already function at scale, positioning DTCC as a bridge between established market plumbing and newer digital frameworks.
We previously reported on OCC adding IEX Options to its clearing and settlement network, extending central counterparty services to the new venue and bringing its roster to 20 options exchanges. The move was framed as a way to broaden market access for clearing members under a single CCP model while maintaining consistent risk management and operational standards across venues.
