HCLTech misses revenue targets

India's software services sector continues to face slower client technology spending as artificial intelligence reshapes traditional billing models. HCLTech reports second-quarter revenue growth, but the result comes in slightly below analyst expectations for the September quarter.

Highlights

  • HCLTech reports Q2 consolidated revenue of 356.20 billion rupees ($3.72 billion), missing analyst forecasts of 356.86 billion rupees, according to LSEG.
  • Tech spending caution among clients continues to weigh on Indian software services exporters, limiting near-term growth for HCLTech.
  • The shift toward AI and changing billing models disrupts traditional revenue streams for outsourcing and technology services in the sector.

September-quarter revenue trails forecasts

As reported by Reuters, HCLTech says consolidated revenue rises 11.5% to 356.20 billion rupees, or $3.72 billion, in the second quarter of the fiscal year.

The result is slightly below the 356.86 billion rupees that analysts on average expect, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Tech spending pressure weighs on services outlook

Clients are holding back on technology spending, adding pressure on Indian software services exporters such as HCLTech.

The sector is also adjusting as AI disrupts traditional billing models, affecting how companies generate revenue from established outsourcing and technology services work.

India’s September inflation acceleration was a key focus in our earlier report, as the headline rate climbed to a 22-month high and strengthened expectations that the Reserve Bank of India could keep policy tilted toward tighter rates. We also highlighted how elevated oil prices and weather-driven food risks can prolong price pressures—factors that may weigh on corporate demand and spending decisions across India’s economy.
