CME Group advances cloud migration for Globex, targets Aurora client testing by mid-2027
CME eyes faster cloud trading

CME Group says it reaches new milestones in its ongoing effort to move its markets to the cloud, including initial performance testing for CME Globex and faster round-trip times for trading. The derivatives exchange operator also says construction of its Aurora Cloud Region and co-location facility is ahead of schedule, supporting an earlier path to cloud-based ultra-low latency trading.

Highlights

  • CME Group completed initial cloud performance testing for CME Globex, reporting faster round-trip trading times as part of its migration to Google Cloud.
  • The new Aurora Cloud Region and co-location facility will be available for client testing in mid-2027, ahead of schedule, hosting specialized Google Cloud services for CME markets.
  • Livestock market migration and rollout of ultra-low latency, cloud-based trading are expected in late 2027, bypassing interim relocation to Dallas and expediting infrastructure improvements.

Cloud migration progress and timeline

As reported by CME Group, the company has completed initial performance testing for CME Globex in the cloud as it continues shifting core market infrastructure to Google Cloud-supported systems. The company says the testing delivers faster round-trip times for trading and marks further progress in the multi-year migration of its markets.

CME Group says the Aurora Cloud Region and co-location facility are being built ahead of schedule. The facility is targeted to be available for client testing in mid-2027 and is set to host Google Cloud's specialized platform designed to support trading of CME Group markets.

The company adds that its Dallas disaster recovery facility has been open for testing since June 2026. CME Group also says livestock market migration to the cloud will take place from the new Aurora Cloud Region in late 2027, removing the need for an interim relocation to Dallas.

Trading infrastructure impact

Terry Duffy, CME Group's chairman and chief executive officer, says the company is making faster than anticipated progress on its transition plans. He says the accelerated Aurora timeline and early performance results mean CME Group expects to deliver its first cloud-based solution for ultra-low latency trading sooner than previously expected.

For market participants, the plan centers on combining Google Cloud-managed services with co-location capabilities in Aurora in late 2027. The move is significant for the U.S. derivatives sector because execution speed, resilience and disaster recovery capacity remain central to trading operations and client connectivity.
