The additional $330 million commitment lifts Berkshire's holding to 4 per cent and pushes the company's shares sharply higher in early Wall Street trading.

Placement expands Berkshire holding

As reported by Financial Times, Berkshire Hathaway is making the new investment through a placement in which Bending Spoons is issuing 10 million ordinary shares at a purchase price of $33 each.

The added $330 million follows Berkshire's $600 million investment in the tech group at its initial public offering in July. Bending Spoons owns AOL, Eventbrite and Vimeo, and the latest transaction increases the Nebraska-based investor's stake to 4 per cent.

Bending Spoons chief executive Luca Ferrari says Berkshire is "among the finest and most respected capital allocators in the world" and calls it a longstanding inspiration for the company. In a statement, he says the group is delighted to strengthen the partnership after welcoming Berkshire as a shareholder at its public listing.

Market response highlights investor appetite

Investors are reacting strongly to the expanded backing from Berkshire, sending Bending Spoons shares up 52.1 per cent in early Wall Street trading on Wednesday to $57.58.

The move takes the stock's gain since its Nasdaq debut to about 99 per cent, underscoring strong demand for the group and suggesting Berkshire's support is reinforcing confidence in the company's market position and growth prospects.
