Hedge funds raise pace of U.S. selling

Hedge funds significantly increased their bearish positions in March, according to Mario Nawfal. U.S. funds sold global equities at the fastest pace seen in ten years, shorting 7.6 times more than they bought.

This marks the fourth consecutive month of heavy selling activity by hedge funds. Nawfal suggests that a substantial short squeeze appears to be building, warning that market dynamics could shift rapidly when current trends reverse.

Nawfal has highlighted other recent shifts in global markets. He reported that liquidity in S&P 500 futures dropped to $5.1 million, reaching lows last seen in April 2025. Nawfal also observed that oil prices surged 36 percent as Brent crude topped $90. These developments come amid increased hedge fund selling activity.
