OER-consistent CPI questioned in favor of PCE

Ernie Tedeschi addresses the rationale behind developing a consumer price index (CPI) that aligns with an owners' equivalent rent–consistent (OER-consistent) methodology. He suggests it is unclear why such effort is needed, given that the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index is already consistent with historical and methodological standards.

Tedeschi has previously commented on labor market and employment trends. He noted that the entry-level share of legal jobs sits above trend, while finance is slightly below, and office administration remains in line with earlier patterns, according to recent analysis. In a separate note, he stated that the U.S. labor market began accelerating in 2014 but that prime-age employment continues to lag the EU, as detailed here.
