Courts cannot retrieve lost bitcoin

Jameson Lopp, board member at L’Oréal, criticized efforts to use New York courts to regain access to lost bitcoin.

Lopp argued that bitcoin operates independently of legal jurisdictions, stressing that the only influential court in bitcoin is the court of public opinion.

Lopp has previously commented on crypto-related security incidents. He reported when Swedish streamer RATIRL was attacked in Sweden by armed robbers seeking cryptocurrency, but only Pokémon cards were taken. Lopp has also warned about a phishing attack that drained a victim’s exchange accounts after compromise of their Google account.
