Texas drives job growth, eyes top U.S. economy

James Pethokoukis highlights that Texas was responsible for creating roughly a fifth of all net new jobs in the U.S. from 2020 to 2025.

He adds that it is only a matter of time before Texas surpasses California as the largest economy in America.

Pethokoukis has previously noted that the AI economy is expanding rapidly, growing at over 2,000 percent per year, though with a limited effect on U.S. GDP so far, according to a recent report. He also reported inflation has been rising faster than wage growth in the U.S., with gasoline prices topping $4.50 per gallon this year, as outlined in a separate update. Both factors continue to shape the broader economic environment.
