Branko Milanovic: Income share of political West declined from 1974 to 2022
Political West's income share fell since 1974

Branko Milanovic presents data from Chapter 1 of 'The Great Global Transformation', including Figures 1.1 and 1.3, which detail changes in global ideational classification and the shifts in population and GDP shares of different world regions from 1974 to 2022.

According to Milanovic, the income importance of the political West has declined over this period.

Milanovic has previously reviewed Serbia’s GDP per capita trends, highlighting strong gains between 1952 and 1982, followed by setbacks and a continued gap with global benchmarks. In his analysis, Serbia’s GDP to world comparison remains below levels seen in the 1970s. Read his summary here.
