Unweighted international inequality in GDP per capita has decreased, Branko Milanovic notes
International GDP inequality continues to decline

Branko Milanovic highlights the ongoing debate around measuring global inequality. According to Milanovic, unweighted international inequality, also called Concept 1 inequality, refers to the disparity between countries' GDPs per capita measured in PPP terms and expressed through Gini coefficients. He observes that this measure of inequality has been decreasing in recent times.

Milanovic has previously examined individual country trends, noting that Serbia’s GDP per capita remains below its 1970s high despite mid-century gains. He has also tracked larger patterns, documenting that the income share of the political West declined from 1974 to 2022. These analyses reflect ongoing scrutiny of both national and regional economic disparities.
