S&P 500 EPS rises 13 percent

Gunjan Banerji highlights that estimated bottom-up operating earnings per share for the S&P 500 has increased by 13 percent since the start of first quarter reporting in April.

Banerji also references commentary from Leuthold Group, which notes that while upward revisions have been a familiar occurrence over the past year and a half, the current magnitude of increases is unprecedented.

Banerji has previously highlighted notable gains in the technology sector. She reported on Micron's 19.3 percent jump, which lifted its market value above $1 trillion for the first time. In another note, Banerji observed the SOX index trading 60 percent above its 200-day moving average, a level not seen since 2000.
