Lance Lambert: Data center construction spending rises sharply versus U.S. homebuilding
Data center builds surpass U.S. homes

Lance Lambert compares spending on data center construction to new single-family homebuilding in the U.S. In April 2022, for every $1,000 spent on U.S. new single-family homebuilding, $24.71 was allocated to data center construction. By April 2026, this figure had grown significantly, with $121.84 spent on data center construction for every $1,000 directed to U.S. homebuilding.

In April, Lambert also reported that Berkshire Hathaway is set to acquire Taylor Morrison, a leading U.S. homebuilder, in an $8.5 billion deal here. Earlier data showed that single-family home prices in the Seattle metro fell 2.2 percent year-over-year, according to the Freddie Mac House Price Index here. The trends highlight recent shifts in both homebuilding activity and pricing in the U.S. housing sector.
