Heather Long: Electric bill rises nearly 30 percent despite same usage
Electric bill jumps 30 percent

Heather Long reports receiving her latest electric bill, finding that the daily average cost has increased by nearly 30 percent compared to last year, despite identical daily usage and average temperature.

She points out that, according to the official Consumer Price Index report, electricity costs have risen 6 percent on average in the past year, with actual increases varying by region.

Recent data show inflationary pressure in other areas as well. In April, U.S. PCE inflation rose to 3.8 percent, the highest since May 2023, according to a report by Heather Long. Separately, U.S. job openings outnumbered unemployed workers for the first time since June 2025.
