Tom Forth states that available data indicate Scotland's economy has shown stronger performance since devolution, even in the face of challenges in the oil and gas sector.
He adds that while he is careful about attributing this entirely to devolution, the economic data is clear and supports the observation.
Forth previously noted that the economy is over 30 percent stronger than Britain, citing higher taxes and increased investment in transport and R&D as contributing factors in a recent article. He has also reported that Britain spends more on infrastructure than its peers but receives less value from that spending in a separate analysis. These observations form part of his ongoing assessments of regional economic performance.
