Intel stock faces rising volatility ahead of earnings season
Intel faces rising volatility.

Intel shares continue to underperform most of the semiconductor sector. Capital rotation has driven the stock into a correction of more than 8% since July 6.

Since reaching a new all-time high on June 30, Intel shares have declined by more than 23%. As anticipated after the semiconductor sector's strongest quarter on record, the market has shifted into a period of consolidation and profit-taking. Investors are increasingly rotating capital out of the strongest-performing sectors and into lagging areas of the market.

Another factor weighing on sentiment is the rapidly rising debt burden across Big Tech as companies continue to invest aggressively in AI infrastructure. This has raised concerns about the long-term returns on these investments, prompting investors to become more selective when evaluating semiconductor stocks.

$110 becomes the key support for Intel

After retesting the 50 SMA, Intel shares once again failed to establish themselves above the indicator and retreated to around $112.54.

A decisive break and sustained move below $110 level would increase the probability of further downside toward the next support near $105.

If the regular trading session opens above $110, Intel could retest the 50 SMA around $116.50. However, this scenario currently appears less likely.

An additional technical headwind comes from RSI (14), which has been forming a bearish divergence since mid-May. This signal suggests that bullish momentum has been weakening and increases the risk of a deeper correction.

Profit-taking remains the key risk for Intel

As earnings season approaches, Intel shares are likely to experience higher volatility. Investors should expect larger price swings in the coming weeks.

Capital rotation and growing concerns about profit-taking remain the primary short-term risks for Intel, adding to market uncertainty ahead of the company's earnings report.
