Gary Black: Ride hailing firms to offer self-driving and chauffeured options within 3-5 years
Ride hailing to add self-driving options soon

Gary Black, managing partner and investor at The Future Fund, expects that within 3 to 5 years, all ride hailing services will provide both chauffeured and self-driving options for their entire range of products, including segments such as Uber Black, Uber X, and Uber XL.

Black notes that while he recognizes the value of full self-driving technology, he believes unsupervised vehicle autonomy will eventually become a commodity in the industry.

Black recently cited potential from self-driving advancements after the Uber CEO acquired $10 million in company shares, supporting a rise in Uber's stock price. He has also argued that Tesla gained U.S. EV market share in 2025 following reduced investment from competitors and a Model Y redesign, according to his analysis at The Future Fund. These comments provide context for his ongoing focus on technology-driven shifts in transportation.
