Alberta surplus and Heritage Fund rise

Alberta ended the 2025-26 fiscal year with a $2.2 billion surplus, while the Heritage Savings Trust Fund finished the year at a record high of more than $32 billion.

Danielle Smith stated that this surplus was achieved in the same year the province introduced a new 8% personal income tax bracket, which she described as the lowest in the U.S.

Earlier this year, Danielle Smith reported that Alberta created over 23,000 new jobs, pushing the province’s unemployment rate below the national average, according to official figures. Smith also highlighted more than $160 million invested in 23 agrifood projects in the Leduc region, as detailed in her recent update. These developments follow continued signs of growth in Alberta’s labor market and investment environment.
