Semiconductors gain 29% year-to-date but remain over 30% below summer levels, Cullen Roche notes
Semiconductor sector up 29% but still down

Semiconductor stocks have climbed 29% year-to-date but are still in a drawdown of over 30% since summer 2026.

This observation was shared by Cullen Roche, who described a chart of the sector as "wild" due to these contrasting performance figures.

Roche has previously highlighted issues with data accuracy in financial reporting, cautioning that popular search engines and Yahoo Finance often provide inaccurate price return data. He also pointed to Congressional Budget Office figures showing that the bottom 20% of U.S. earners paid an average federal tax rate of 1.4%, while the top 1% paid 31.5% and covered 27% of all federal taxes in 2022. These past observations reflect Roche’s focus on both data quality and market structure.
