Upbeat guidance and AI launch drive buybacks and outperform expectations

Paycom reported strong financial results for the second quarter of 2026, including revenue of $531.2 million and adjusted earnings per share of $2.78, both ahead of expectations. The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue and adjusted EBITDA guidance above prior estimates. Paycom also increased its share repurchases, buying back $1.4 billion in stock during the first half, and launched its new AI-driven IWant™ engine to boost operational efficiency.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees Paycom’s post-earnings rally as driven by short-term enthusiasm, not by a shift in the underlying long-term trend. He notes that while the company delivered strong fundamentals and upbeat guidance, technicals still signal a bearish long-term structure despite today’s surge. Overbought readings across momentum indicators and extreme intraday volatility point to excessive optimism and vulnerable price action. Persistent reliance on buybacks and new product launches may mask deeper structural weaknesses. "I am wary of chasing this move, as market exuberance often precedes mean reversion in stocks with unresolved long-term headwinds," Kharitonov states.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, views Paycom’s results as a clear reinforcement of its bullish structure. He highlights the company’s accelerated share repurchases, strong earnings beat, and raised guidance as confirmation of robust fundamental momentum. Adoption of AI-driven solutions increases operational efficiency and forward growth prospects. Karapetjanc is confident that further upside is probable if momentum persists. "With fundamentals and sentiment aligned, I see the market offering multiple setups for continued gains in Paycom," he says.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, observes that bullish sentiment and strong technicals dominate Paycom’s current tape. He sees a short-term opportunity for active traders as intraday volatility remains high and levels at $208.01 and $219 are in focus. Turakhiya stresses upside probability, but warns that swift reversals are possible if overbought signals unwind. "I’d watch for momentum swings near these levels, as volatility can create both breakout setups and false signals," the analyst notes.

Overbought signals intensify as resistance nears and upside momentum prevails

Paycom trades firmly above its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages ($152.77, $141.34, and $144.61), confirming prevailing bullish momentum across short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes. The next key intraday levels to watch are the near-term ceiling at $219 and the floor at $208.01. The long-term trend backdrop remains bearish, as signaled by the relative positioning of the MA-50 versus the MA-200. Momentum signals reflect very strong upside pressure, as both the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Average Directional Index (ADX) remain positive. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 70.67, Stochastic RSI at 92.96, and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) at 151.05 all read overbought. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) at 18.46 confirms buyers dominate the intraday tone, with an overbought warning. The Awesome Oscillator (AO) supports the upward move. The stock has jumped to $214.37, up $39.57 or 22.64% today, following an upside gap of nearly 20.54%. Price currently sits mid-range for the session as intraday volatility stands at 5.28%. The trading session is characterized by robust buying interest and sustained strength after the open.

Previously it was reported that Paycom maintained a bullish technical setup as traders focused on its ability to hold key support levels and the overall constructive trend. The latest surge driven by strong quarterly results and upgraded guidance further reinforces the bullish momentum, with a breakout above $219 set to unlock the next phase of upside within the forecast volatility band.
