Apple tests $320 resistance as investors weigh product cycle against Fed risk

AAPL is trading around $319-320 on August 31 and is approaching an important technical area after a confident recovery from the August low around $302-303. Despite the hawkish market reaction to Kevin Warsh’s Friday speech at Jackson Hole, Apple is showing relative resilience: the stock has held well above its local lows and is once again testing an area that had previously capped the recovery several times.

This is particularly important against the backdrop of rising Treasury yields, as AAPL is effectively showing demand even in a less favorable cost-of-capital environment for Big Tech.

Warsh keeps valuation pressure elevated

Warsh’s speech nevertheless remains the main macroeconomic risk. His emphasis on insufficient progress in bringing inflation back toward 2% sharply increased the probability of a September Fed rate hike and pushed up the yield on policy-sensitive 2-year Treasuries. For Apple, this means a higher discount rate and potential pressure on the P/E multiple.

However, the stock’s own reaction so far shows that the market is not ready to aggressively reduce positions ahead of the September product cycle. An additional risk comes from the rise in oil prices following renewed escalation between the U.S. and Iran, as higher energy costs could keep inflation elevated and prolong the Fed’s hawkish stance.

September lineup shifts focus to premium mix

Fundamentally, Apple enters this period from a strong base: June-quarter revenue reached a record $109.4 billion, up 16% y/y, EPS increased by 29% to $2.02, and iPhone sales rose by 22%. The market is now shifting its attention to whether the September lineup can support higher average selling prices and a stronger premium mix after an already very strong quarter.

This is particularly relevant because part of the high margin in the latest report was supported by tariff refunds, so further ASP growth and strong demand for higher-priced models are becoming more important for maintaining profitability without one-off factors.

$320 breakout could reopen path higher

At the moment, $320 is an important near-term resistance level. A confident breakout and hold above this zone would allow for a move toward $325, followed by $330-332. At the same time, the $325 area could become the first more significant zone for profit-taking.

On the downside, nearest support has shifted to $315-313, while a more important level is around $310. As long as AAPL remains above $313-315, the short-term structure looks relatively constructive despite the hawkish Fed signal. A break below $310, as written in Apple approaches key resistance as premium product strategy gains traction, would noticeably weaken the picture and increase the risk of a return toward $305-300.
