Nvidia stock tests $217 as AI infrastructure worries pressure tech sector
Nvidia is trying to stabilize as concerns over AI infrastructure spending keep pressure on the sector. The next test is whether buyers can reclaim $217 and reopen the path toward $223.
The main source of pressure on technology stocks on October 16 was renewed concern over whether the current pace of AI infrastructure investment can be sustained, particularly as financing challenges emerge among cloud operators including CoreWeave.
A more constructive signal arrived on October 19. According to DigiTimes, Samsung plans to use TSMC’s 3nm process to manufacture next-generation memory base dies for Nvidia. The components are intended for specialized HBM memory used in future AI accelerators.
The potential collaboration highlights the increasingly complex requirements for advanced AI components, although the report remains based on industry sources and has not been confirmed through a separate official announcement from Nvidia.

Reclaiming $217 could open the way toward $223
The bearish scenario from the previous analysis played out in full, with Nvidia stock reaching the projected $213 target.
For today’s session, $217 is once again the key level. If NVDA can move back above it and hold after the opening bell, the stock could attempt to fill the October 15 gap near $222.50 before testing the 50-day SMA around $223.
Failure to remain above $217 would invalidate that recovery setup. In that case, the risk of another move toward $213 would quickly return.
Semiconductor earnings could test the strength of AI investment demand
The coming week will provide an important test not only for technology companies but for the broader semiconductor supply chain. Lam Research reports on October 21, and its results could offer another read on how willing the industry remains to commit capital to expanding chip-production capacity.
The risks, however, extend well beyond earnings. High inflation, geopolitical tensions and expensive oil continue to weigh on U.S. equities. In that environment, even strong results from Nvidia could still trigger a sizable round of profit-taking if investors choose to sell the news.
