Anthropic founders’ giving pledge could channel nearly $80 billion after IPO
Anthropic's $80B pledge

Anthropic’s initial public offering filing puts new focus on a philanthropy commitment by the AI company’s seven cofounders as the business scales rapidly toward a potential public debut. The voluntary pledge covers 80% of each founder’s personal equity stake, a sum that could approach $80 billion at the latest private valuation analyzed from the filing.

Highlights

  • Anthropic's S-1 filing reveals its seven cofounders voluntarily pledged 80% of their equity—worth about $79.4 billion—to philanthropy, though the pledges are revocable.
  • Despite planned donations, the cofounders retain 50.1% voting power via Founder LLC’s special share under Anthropic’s proposed post-IPO governance structure.
  • Anthropic projects $16.3 billion revenue for H1 2026, targets a Nasdaq IPO (ticker ANT) that could raise up to $100 billion and value the firm at $1.5–2 trillion.

IPO filing details founders’ pledge

As reported by Fortune, Anthropic says in its public S-1 filing that its seven cofounders have each pledged to dedicate 80% of their personal equity in the company to philanthropic causes. The filing, made public Monday morning, reiterates a commitment that Chief Executive Dario Amodei previously described in a January essay about the economic risks and wealth concentration that AI could create.

Based on the founders’ combined holding of about 1.69 billion shares and the latest private funding-round price cited in the analysis, their stakes are worth roughly $99.3 billion, with 80% equating to about $79.4 billion. The filing does not yet specify the IPO price or how many shares each founder plans to sell, leaving the precise value of their post-offering holdings unresolved.

The document also says the pledges are voluntary and revocable rather than legally binding. It adds that donations could be made through charities, private foundations, donor-advised funds, or other philanthropic vehicles, while the timing and eventual recipients remain uncertain.

Governance and growth keep founders influential

Even if the cofounders donate most of their stakes over time, that would not necessarily reduce their control over shareholder matters. Under Anthropic’s planned governance structure, the seven founders would collectively retain 50.1% of voting power on matters generally submitted to shareholders through a special share held by their Founder LLC.

Behind the pledge is a company growing at exceptional speed. Anthropic generates $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, up from $1.2 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to the S-1.

Anthropic could raise as much as $100 billion in the IPO and plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. A debut is expected around Thanksgiving, and the offering could value the Claude maker at between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, underscoring the scale of the wealth creation that has prompted the founders’ stated philanthropic commitment.

In our earlier coverage of the Nasdaq 100 rebound tied to anticipation around major tech earnings and Fed signals, we noted that the index was consolidating in a defined range as risk appetite returned to technology shares. That report also highlighted mixed momentum indicators and flagged key levels to watch in the near term, with volatility expected to stay elevated as IPO- and earnings-related headlines hit the market.
