IC Markets review: Australia Day holiday alters trading schedule
IC Markets has published its updated trading schedule for Australia Day, outlining changes that will take effect on Monday, January 26, 2026, as Australian markets observe the national public holiday. The announcement is intended to help traders prepare for altered market conditions and manage risk during a period typically marked by reduced liquidity.
According to IC Markets, all times referenced are in platform time (GMT+2). The firm cautioned that liquidity during the holiday is expected to be particularly thin, a factor that may lead to increased volatility, wider spreads and intermittent pricing across certain instruments.
Market closures and trading conditions
As part of the Australia Day schedule, AUS200 and Australian shares will be closed for the entire trading day on January 26. Other instruments may remain available but could experience lower-than-usual trading activity due to reduced participation from Australian financial institutions.
IC Markets emphasized that holiday conditions often amplify market sensitivity, particularly during periods of low volume. Traders are therefore advised to review open positions, reassess risk exposure and consider adjusting order sizes or stop levels to account for potential price gaps.
