Highlights

  • Sugar prices are affected by low stock levels in India and ongoing weather risks to Brazil's crop.
  • Broader selling pressure persists despite reports of adequate short-term supply in other global markets.
  • Sugar is trading below its short-term average with intraday downside of 3.11%, but momentum indicators remain bullish and the expected five-day range is $19.15 to $19.96.

Mixed global supply outlook as India scarcity offsets broader availability

Low sugar stock levels in India and the ongoing risk of rain affecting Brazil's crop have influenced Sugar prices, accompanied by reports of adequate short-term availability in other markets. The current environment shows these opposing supply factors. No major regulatory or structural changes have been reported, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees short-term risk for Sugar despite the recent pullback, given price action remains under the 20-day moving average and persistent volatility. He notes that heightened downside pressure is compounded by oversold oscillators, suggesting sellers currently dominate. The presence of positive momentum signals is weakened by unresolved supply risks in India and weather threats in Brazil, casting doubt on sustainable recovery. He remains wary of a bearish extension if USX19.15 is breached, especially with fundamental and technical signals diverging. "For now, I view Sugar’s correction as vulnerable, with further losses possible if buyers do not hold the support zone," says Kharitonov.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, highlights that the bullish structure for Sugar futures remains intact. He believes market fundamentals are supportive, as global supply concerns from India and Brazil offer strong upside catalysts. Despite the recent dip, momentum indicators like MACD and ADX are in alignment with continued buying interest. The broad setup points to new opportunities if resistance at USX19.96 breaks. "I expect Sugar to regain strength soon — the underlying macro story still favors further growth and attractive setups for buyers," Karapetjanc concludes.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, focuses on the current technical and sentiment-driven opportunities after Sugar’s 3.11% drop. He sees neutral RSI and oversold Stochastic RSI as signals for a possible short-term rebound, especially with volatility elevated. Turakhiya observes that sentiment is cautious but not outright bearish, as support at USX19.15 could serve as a pivot. "The setup looks appealing for short-term traders eyeing a quick bounce as negative sentiment may be overdone," Turakhiya says.

Seller pressure below 20-day average amid bullish long-term signals

Sugar is trading below its 20-day moving average at USX20.22, but remains above the 50-day (USX18.98) and 200-day (USX15.67) levels. This setup indicates short-term downside pressure from sellers, with the medium- and long-term trends still pointing to a bullish structure. Immediate resistance is set at the Ichimoku Kijun near USX19.64, while near-term support is at USX19.15. Momentum, measured by the MACD and ADX, stays positive with strong buy signals. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is neutral at 55.04, Stochastic RSI is oversold near 6.86, and the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) is neutral, indicating a divergence between trend and oscillators. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) remains positive at 0.13, highlighting ongoing buyer dominance during the session. Volatility is at 2.30%, and price action is close to the intraday low, reflecting sustained downside pressure. Although most momentum signals are bullish, oversold oscillators suggest a potential for a short-term stabilizing bounce.

Previously it was reported that Sugar was undergoing a period of consolidation with mixed technical signals and no clear directional bias. The current analysis adds that, while downside pressure persists in the short term, traders should watch for a potential stabilizing bounce if support near USX19.15 holds in the face of oversold conditions.
