Lexicon Pharmaceuticals: up to 50 percent of type 2 diabetes patients affected by painful neuropathy
Lexicon targets diabetic neuropathy impact

An estimated 50 percent of individuals with type 2 diabetes and 30 percent of those with type 1 diabetes are impacted by painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, according to Lexicon Pharmaceuticals.

Following Peripheral Neuropathy Awareness Week, the company is intensifying efforts to elevate patient voices and accelerate research addressing unmet clinical needs. Lexicon Pharmaceuticals' continued focus highlights the significant burden of neuropathic pain among diabetes patients and the pressing demand for innovative therapeutic solutions.

Earlier this year, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals presented Phase 2b trial data at AAN 2026 supporting a 10 mg dose for Phase 3 development in diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). The company is also advancing its SONATA-HCM Phase 3 trial, which expands research on an SGLT1/SGLT2 inhibitor for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients (HCM). These initiatives reflect Lexicon’s ongoing investment in clinical research across multiple indications.
