Accuray has released prospective data from a study involving 266 patients with more than 70 months of follow up, indicating that comprehensive salivary gland sparing helical TomoTherapy may significantly reduce xerostomia rates to around 10 percent for grade 2 or higher and just 0.4 percent for grade 3, while also maintaining strong outcomes.
The research noted a five year locoregional recurrence free survival (LRRFS) of 92 percent and an overall survival (OS) of 81 percent, with no evidence of compromised tumor control. These findings could influence future approaches to radiation therapy for head and neck cancer.
