Redfin Corp: U.S. investor home purchases fall 6 percent in Q1 to lowest since 2020
Investor home buying hits new low

Investor purchases of U.S. homes fell 6 percent year over year in the first quarter, reaching their lowest level since 2020.

According to Redfin Corp, this decline brings investor homebuying activity to figures not seen since the pandemic halted the market, with the previous low before 2020 occurring in 2016. Elevated mortgage rates and decelerating home price growth are contributing to the cautious pace among investors, intensifying the cooling trend in the U.S. housing market.

Redfin Corp has recently tracked other real estate trends across the country. In a separate report, the company found that Midwest neighborhoods are seeing faster home sales and increased buyer demand in forecasts for 2026. Redfin also reported that most Americans are more likely to oppose local AI data centers than support them, with younger residents showing greater approval compared to older groups.
