Hawaiian Electric has achieved significant progress in its plan to modernize the Waiau Power Plant, replacing six aging steam generators with smaller, more efficient combustion turbine units.
The project, which received approval from the Public Utilities Commission in March, is on track, with the first two new units expected to enter commercial operation as scheduled. This modernization effort aims to enhance energy efficiency and ensure reliable service for customers.
Hawaiian Electric recently introduced H-HEAP credits to help qualifying customers lower their energy bills. The utility has also engaged younger audiences by sponsoring a solar car competition at Kapolei Middle School. These initiatives support broader efforts to improve affordability and foster community involvement.
