Backblaze, Inc. faces LockBit attack

Backblaze, Inc. revealed that what was first believed to be a routine outage was actually triggered by a LockBit ransomware attack.

Zach Lewis, Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer at Backblaze, Inc. and author of Locked Up, shared insights during a fireside chat about how his team experienced the incident firsthand. Lewis detailed missed warning signs, difficult decisions under pressure, and the realization that relying solely on backups may not be sufficient to prevent major operational risk from such sophisticated ransomware threats.

Backblaze has recently focused on cost efficiency with the launch of a neocloud architecture that claims to cut GPU expenses by up to 85 percent. The company also introduced a backup tool offering automatic endpoint coverage without extra monitoring for IT teams. These efforts come as Backblaze’s security and infrastructure face fresh challenges in the wake of the LockBit ransomware event.
