PlateRanger adopts incident-based vehicle retention for targeted data storage
SoundThinking restricts vehicle data storage

SoundThinking introduced a new core capability for PlateRanger: incident-based retention technology that stores only vehicles linked to hotlists.

This approach uses patented methods to improve data efficiency and privacy by limiting retention to vehicles actively involved in incidents or investigations. The company is positioning this feature to address growing demands for targeted data use within law enforcement and commercial fleet monitoring.

SoundThinking recently launched PlateRanger ALPR with integrated privacy features, intended to balance public safety with privacy rights, according to a previous company announcement. At the NOBLE Annual Training Conference, SoundThinking also promoted its connected public safety ecosystem to conference attendees, encouraging engagement through its booth earlier this year. These moves form part of the company’s strategy to support law enforcement with technology that addresses both operational and privacy requirements.
