Truth Social API probed

Trump Media and Technology Group is defending a data product that gives paying customers faster access to content from Truth Social as political scrutiny around the service grows. The company says the business is generating positive cash flow even as Democratic lawmakers push for investigations into whether the offering could raise securities law concerns.

Highlights

  • Trump Media and Technology Group CEO Kevin McGurn declined to comment on government inquiries into Truth API, citing ongoing investigations at Axios' Media Trends Live event.
  • Truth API, launched earlier this year, generates cash through sales of rapid access to posts from Truth Social's top 10 accounts and attracts high-frequency trading interest.
  • McGurn states TMTG plans global expansion and broader creator recruitment, emphasizing product value beyond President Trump's tenure and distancing presidential posting decisions from company control.

Executive response at New York event

As reported by Axios, Trump Media and Technology Group CEO Kevin McGurn declines to comment on investigations into the company's Truth API product when asked onstage at the outlet's Media Trends Live event in New York City on Tuesday.

McGurn says some of the investigations are ongoing and that he cannot comment on them specifically. He adds that the company conducts due diligence and continues operating its business while responding to questions from government agencies, describing TMTG as one of the most scrutinized businesses in the market.

Democratic lawmakers have called for investigations into Truth API, arguing that faster access to President Trump's market-moving posts could amount to insider trading. They have also asked the SEC to examine whether the product violates federal securities laws.

Product demand and expansion plans

TMTG launched Truth API earlier this year and sells faster access to posts from Truth Social's 10 trending accounts. McGurn defends the service as a standard technology used across social media and information platforms, saying the company built the API, licensed it and saw enough demand to shape its business model, including interest from high-frequency trading platforms over the past 18 months.

While he declines to provide financial figures, McGurn says the API is a cash-positive business that monetizes an existing news and information platform. He also says he expects the product to retain value beyond President Trump's time in office because rapid access to social media context remains useful to high-frequency and retail traders.

On Truth Social's broader strategy, McGurn says TMTG is actively recruiting more creators and wants to expand distribution beyond the U.S. He also says posting decisions by President Trump are ultimately his own, while describing the president as highly supportive of the company.

In our earlier article on AI agents and corporate adoption, we covered findings from a KPMG U.S. CEO survey showing that many large companies are already seeing efficiency and growth gains from agentic AI, even though only a small share view it as transformational so far. The survey also pointed to continued investment in AI infrastructure alongside hiring and retraining plans, highlighting that governance, data readiness, and oversight remain central as these tools move closer to core business workflows.
