Reliance Industries quarterly profit jumps on refining and digital strength
Reliance profit surges high

Reliance Industries reports a sharp rise in quarterly earnings as stronger performance across its core businesses lifts results above market expectations. The gain is supported by higher refining profitability, firmer petrochemical margins and continued growth at Jio Platforms in the quarter ended September 30.

Highlights

  • Reliance Industries' consolidated net profit rises 40.6% to 255.48 billion rupees ($2.69 billion) for Q2, exceeding analysts' 214.19 billion rupees estimate.
  • Core earnings at Reliance's refining business surge 68% and Jio Platforms posts 16.6% growth in core earnings after its stock debut in the quarter.
  • Sharply higher Brent crude prices and strong domestic demand drive robust oil-to-chemicals performance, which accounts for over half of Reliance's group revenue.

Quarterly earnings beat driven by core businesses

As reported by Reuters, Reliance says consolidated net profit rises 40.6% to 255.48 billion rupees, or $2.69 billion, for the quarter ended September 30, topping analysts' average estimate of 214.19 billion rupees compiled by LSEG.

The company, controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, says its oil-to-chemicals business delivers a particularly strong performance during the quarter. Ambani says tight fuel markets, improved petrochemical margins and firm domestic demand support the result.

Core earnings at Reliance's refining business, one of its main profit engines, soar 68% in the quarter. Jio Platforms, the group's digital services arm, posts a 16.6% rise in core earnings after its major stock market debut earlier this week.

Energy market tailwinds support profitability

Reliance, which operates the world's largest refining complex in western India, benefits from a sharp rise in Brent crude prices since the Iran war breaks out at the end of February. Oil-to-chemicals accounts for more than half of the group's revenue, making the segment central to overall earnings momentum.

The latest results underline how Reliance's mix of energy, petrochemicals and telecom operations continues to support profit growth even as market conditions shift across sectors. Stronger refining margins and resilient domestic demand remain key factors for investors tracking the group's earnings trajectory.

Conflict-driven oil shipping costs have surged, turning freight into a much larger component of crude pricing as tanker routes face higher risks, rerouting and insurance premiums. Our earlier article noted that record tanker rates can squeeze refiners and raise fuel and consumer prices, especially in import-dependent markets. It also highlighted that these disruptions may persist as companies adjust supply chains away from key chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz.
