BioBasicsBench introduced by OpenAI to assess AI agent handling of wet-lab analyses
OpenAI debuts BioBasicsBench tool

OpenAI has released BioBasicsBench, a new benchmark designed to measure how artificial intelligence agents manage routine analyses in wet-lab science.

Developed in collaboration with Ligo, a biotech company focused on enzyme design, BioBasicsBench features 100 tasks from real experiments to assess the ability of AI models to interpret raw laboratory data and identify key scientific findings.

OpenAI recently set a target of $70 billion in annualized revenue by year-end as enterprise sales and fundraising accelerate, according to a previous report. The company has since reduced its funding target to $20 billion at a $1.25 trillion valuation, citing softer investor demand for large private AI deals as tech market pressure rises, per another update. These developments come as OpenAI expands its efforts in scientific and enterprise applications.
