U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs post biggest inflow in 3.5 months
Bitcoin ETFs surge again

A rebound in cryptocurrency prices is driving fresh demand for U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds, which attract $517.19 million in net inflows on Wednesday. The daily total is the strongest since May 4, with BlackRock's IBIT leading gains as analysts link the move to improving liquidity expectations and a broader return in risk appetite.

Highlights

  • U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs see $506 million in net inflows Wednesday, with BlackRock's IBIT leading at $284.7 million, marking the largest daily inflow since May 4.
  • Bitcoin climbs above $69,000 and ether reclaims $2,000 as crypto markets rally on positive policy signals and U.S. Treasury's plan to double buyback operations for 10- to 30-year securities.
  • Analysts attribute ETF inflows to renewed institutional demand at current price levels, while cautioning that continued momentum depends on ongoing buybacks and upcoming inflation data.

Fund flows surge on market rebound

As reported by The Block, citing SoSoValue, eight of the 12 U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs record net inflows on Wednesday, led by BlackRock's IBIT with $284.7 million. Ark & 21Shares' ARKB brings in $77.7 million, while Fidelity's FBTC adds $62.4 million.

The inflow total marks the largest one-day addition to the funds since May 4, ending a weaker stretch for bitcoin ETF demand after months of market pressure. Bitcoin rises above $69,000 for the first time in two months, while ether reclaims $2,000 in a broader crypto rally.

Liquidity outlook shapes institutional demand

Analysts say the sharp inflows follow positive policy signals that improve sentiment across digital assets. Jeff Mei, chief operating officer at BTSE, says the U.S. Treasury Department's buyback expansion announcement helps cap Treasury yields, weakens the dollar and supports risk assets such as bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

On Wednesday morning, the U.S. Treasury Department says it will at least double the size of liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities across the 10- to 30-year segment. Earlier on Tuesday, the Securities and Exchange Commission proposes a rule creating two tailored exemptions for certain crypto investment contracts, allowing issuers to raise up to $5 million over four years or $75 million annually, subject to disclosure requirements.

Rachael Lucas, crypto analyst at BTC Markets, says the scale of the inflows points to renewed institutional positioning rather than retail-driven momentum. She says larger allocators appear to be treating current price levels as constructive entry points after heavy outflows in May and June and uneven flows through parts of July and mid-August.

Both Lucas and Mei say flows are unlikely to continue at the same pace. Mei says the outlook depends on whether the buybacks become an ongoing initiative, as well as on inflation data next week and any further comments from Bessent on the durability of the strategy.

The U.S. Treasury’s decision to at least double liquidity-support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities highlighted intensifying focus on liquidity conditions at the far end of the yield curve. In our earlier article, we noted the move followed a sharp bond selloff that pushed the 30-year yield to multi-decade highs, with fiscal strain and a rising term premium keeping long-end borrowing costs elevated.
