Dystopia Labs founder Hsin-Ju Chuang dies at 37

Former Hack VC partner and Dystopia Labs founder Hsin-Ju Chuang has died at the age of 37. Shortly before her death, she publicly accused her former employer of mistreating her, while the circumstances and cause of her death have not been officially disclosed.

According to a report from the San Bernardino County coroner, California Highway Patrol officers responded on August 24 to a section of Interstate 15 south of Field Road. Chuang was pronounced dead at the scene.

Before entering the venture capital industry, Chuang held senior positions at Stellar and Solana, where she was responsible for project development. She joined Hack VC as a venture partner in 2021 and became a partner and head of platform in 2025.

Chuang accused Hack VC of mistreatment before her death

On August 23–24, Chuang published a series of posts on X about her time at Hack VC. She accused the firm of putting pressure on her, including when she was experiencing serious health problems, and described a dispute over the continuation of her health insurance after leaving the company.

Chuang also named Hack VC co-founder Alexander Pack and Daniel Bulaevsky and said she had evidence supporting her allegations. According to Protos, the dispute over insurance went to private mediation before becoming public.

Hack VC initially issued a statement saying its account of events differed significantly from Chuang's, but declined to discuss the details publicly. The firm later deleted the post.

In comments to the media, company representatives said the decision was prompted by the negative reaction on social media. According to the firm, some comments directed at Chuang were becoming increasingly hostile, and it did not want to draw further attention to the situation.

Hack VC says it does not know the circumstances of her death

Hack VC co-founder and managing partner Alexander Pack later said the firm was "shocked and saddened" by the news of Chuang's death and expressed condolences to her loved ones. He said representatives of the firm had not communicated with her directly for more than 10 months.

Pack also stressed that Hack VC had no information about the circumstances surrounding its former employee's death. California authorities had not disclosed the cause at the time of publication, meaning no connection has been established between Chuang's death and her public dispute with the firm.

Earlier, another major crypto project faced a corporate dispute following the death of one of its executives. The mother of late Ondo Finance founder Nathan Allman filed a lawsuit in the Delaware Court of Chancery, seeking to invalidate the appointment of Ian De Bode as the company's CEO.

In the lawsuit, Kathleen Allman claims she controls a majority of the voting shares as representative of her son's estate and has the right to appoint a new board of directors. Ondo called the claims unfounded, while De Bode said he retains the support of key investors and the Ondo Foundation.

Earlier, we reported that Ondo Finance expanded conversion options for tokenized stocks for institutional clients. The solution is designed to facilitate the use of tokenized securities by professional market participants.
