OKX-ICE venture files to launch tokenized U.S. stock platform
Tokenized US stocks debut

Tokenized equity trading is moving further into regulated markets as a joint venture backed by OKX and Intercontinental Exchange seeks to open a new venue in the U.S. The planned platform is set to cover more than 60 companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges under the Securities and Exchange Commission's new innovation exemption.

Highlights

  • OKXICE LLC, a 50-50 joint venture between OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, filed with the SEC to launch a tokenized securities venue under the regulator's innovation exemption.
  • The planned platform will offer trading in tokenized shares of over 60 U.S.-listed companies, aiming for a global, 24/7 Wall Street.
  • The SEC's September innovation exemption enables limited trading of tokenized National Market System stocks via approved onchain venues using automated market makers and liquidity pools.

Filing sets out tokenized trading plan

As reported by Cointelegraph, OKXICE LLC, a joint venture between cryptocurrency exchange operator OKX and New York Stock Exchange parent Intercontinental Exchange Inc., has notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it intends to launch a tokenized securities venue under the regulator's new innovation exemption.

The venue is designed for tokenized securities trading and will include more than 60 companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges, according to OKXICE co-chair Andrew Cuomo. He says the move is a landmark step toward a global, 24/7 Wall Street and toward keeping digital finance development anchored in the United States.

OKX and Intercontinental Exchange formed the 50-50 joint venture in June to build infrastructure for tokenized financial products, positioning the filing as an early attempt to use the SEC's latest framework for onchain equity trading.

SEC framework expands scope for onchain equities

In September, the SEC issued a temporary exemption that allows limited trading of tokenized U.S. stocks on certain onchain venues. That exemption creates a path for approved platforms to test how blockchain-based versions of listed shares can operate within U.S. securities rules.

Under the innovation exemption, tokenized securities venues can offer permissioned trading of tokenized National Market System stocks through automated market makers and liquidity pools. The filing points to growing convergence between traditional exchange operators and crypto infrastructure providers as the tokenized finance sector pushes deeper into regulated capital markets.

In our earlier coverage of SpaceX-linked tokenized shares, we examined how rising investor demand is accelerating the shift of traditional U.S. equity exposure onto blockchain rails. We also noted that retail buyers still face familiar constraints—limited allocations, delivery bottlenecks, and IPO-style volatility—even when access is packaged through tokenized formats.
