Tokenized stock, ETF onchain trading volume jumps as sector expands
Tokenized assets surge onchain

Newer segments of the cryptocurrency market are gaining momentum even as broader digital asset activity weakens. Tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds generated more than $37 billion in onchain trading volume in the third quarter, highlighting rising demand for speculative products and a widening regulatory backdrop.

Highlights

  • Tokenized stocks and ETFs saw over $37 billion in onchain trading volume in Q3, up 18-fold since January, per Dune Analytics.
  • The trading surge spanned more than 200 venues and 12 chains, including platforms like OKX and Intercontinental Exchange Inc’s tokenized stock venue.
  • Sector growth is fueled by expanding regulatory frameworks and rising demand for high-risk, hyper-speculative tokenized financial products amid weak broader crypto market momentum.

Third-quarter trading surge across venues

As reported by Bloomberg, citing Dune Analytics, tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds recorded more than $37 billion in onchain trading volume in the third quarter, marking an 18-fold increase since January.

The blockchain data analytics firm said the tally covers more than 200 venues and 12 chains. The count includes platforms such as OKX and Intercontinental Exchange Inc's tokenized stock venue.

Growing activity in niche crypto markets

The figures point to continued expansion in newer corners of the crypto industry at a time when the broader market may be losing momentum.

The increase is being supported by an expanding regulatory framework and stronger appetite for higher-risk, hyper-speculative investments tied to tokenized financial products.

In our earlier article on India’s disinvestment programme, we explained that most proceeds since FY 2016 have come through market-based routes such as ETFs, public issues and buybacks, while strategic sales have contributed relatively little. We also noted that the planned IDBI Bank stake sale stands out as an unusually large strategic deal that could materially lift the year’s overall disinvestment collections versus recent shortfalls.
