Highlights

  • EUR/NGN remains below key short, medium, and long-term moving averages, indicating sustained downward momentum across all timeframes.
  • Most technical momentum indicators register bearish signals, but oversold oscillators show the decline may be overextended intraday.
  • The price finished at NGN1,485 and is projected to fluctuate between NGN1,478 to NGN1,493 over the next 2 to 3 days with 71% probability of further downside.

Bearish momentum builds as key resistances cap price

On the technical side, EUR/NGN remains below the hourly MA-20, MA-50 (NGN1,490), and long-term MA-200 (NGN1,572). The Ichimoku Kijun level at NGN1,490 now acts as overhead resistance. Momentum indicators are broadly negative, with MACD signaling Sell and ADX classified as Neutral, reflecting a lack of trend strength. RSI stands at 42.45 with a Sell indication, while Stoch RSI, CCI, and Bull/Bear Power all point to oversold conditions and ongoing intraday seller dominance. The Awesome Oscillator also confirms ongoing bearish pressure, though a divergence appears as short-term oscillators highlight the downward pace may be stretched.

Limited upside as tight range and downside bias persist

Over the next 2–3 trading days, EUR/NGN is expected to trade within a typical volatility band between NGN1,478 and NGN1,493. There is a 29% probability of upward price movement and a 71% probability of a downward move, with the baseline scenario showing a tight sideways corridor. Any bullish reversal would require a break above resistance at NGN1,490, while a drop below NGN1,478 could increase downside momentum.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that EUR/NGN is under consistent bearish technical pressure, with prices staying below all key moving averages. Momentum signals remain negative, and short-term indicators highlight oversold conditions with sellers in control. He remains cautious as the probability of further downside outweighs a reversal in the immediate term. "Base case remains a tight range between NGN1,478 and NGN1,493 — until bulls reclaim NGN1,490, I see no reason to shift from a defensive outlook."

Earlier, analysts noted that EUR/NGN was consolidating in a narrow range with upward momentum tempered by resistance and overbought technical signals. The current setup marks a shift to increased downside risk, so traders should monitor for a potential acceleration if the pair breaks below NGN1,478 support.
