Rupiah support reinforced as Bank Indonesia boosts sector liquidity

Bank Indonesia has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 5.75%, a move that helps stabilize funding costs and signals consistency in monetary policy, according to Bloomberg. The central bank's decision to raise the deposit facility rate by 25 basis points to 5.00% provides higher returns to banks, improving sector liquidity and bolstering support for the rupiah. At the same time, a planned cut to the reserve requirement ratio next month will free up additional capital for lending, potentially increasing domestic liquidity and influencing the currency's near-term supply-demand balance. Together, these measures reflect Bank Indonesia's nuanced approach to supporting the rupiah in the face of external pressures.

Buyer dominance confirmed as bullish momentum tests resistance levels

On the H1 chart, NZD/IDR is trading above its MA-20 at Rp10,235 and MA-50 at Rp10,226, while on the daily timeframe, it remains above the MA-200 set at Rp10,233. Immediate support is defined by the Ichimoku Kijun at Rp10,231. Momentum signals are positive—MACD and ADX indicate ongoing bullish strength, with RSI at 57.30, CCI, and Bull/Bear Power all confirming buyer dominance and an overbought environment. Both Stoch RSI and Awesome Oscillator provide neutral readings, pointing to mixed signals from oscillators despite prevailing upward momentum.

High up-move risk as NZD/IDR approaches volatility band ceiling

In the short term, NZD/IDR is expected to remain rangebound between Rp10,221 and Rp10,324, with up-move probability classified as very high and downside moves deemed unlikely. The baseline scenario calls for price action within these levels, corresponding to a typical volatility band relative to current levels. Should NZD/IDR break above Rp10,324, an acceleration to the upside may occur, while a drop below Rp10,221 would likely invite further selling pressure.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, believes that Bank Indonesia’s steady monetary actions create a supportive environment for the Indonesian rupiah. He sees the NZD/IDR pair maintaining its upward bias, confirmed by robust technical momentum and resilience above key support levels. The analyst expects price action to stay within the established band, with downside risk appearing limited barring a break below Rp10,221. "Macro signals and liquidity management keep the rupiah stable, while technical strength gives NZD/IDR room to test the range top," he says.

Earlier, analysts noted that NZD/IDR was supported by bullish technical momentum, though overbought conditions were beginning to limit further upside. The current data adds a new dimension by highlighting Bank Indonesia's liquidity measures, signaling that traders should closely monitor the impact of increasing domestic liquidity on volatility and the possibility of shifts in the established trading range.
