  • Inflation remains elevated, historically influencing central bank decisions and supporting higher demand for the currency.
  • AUD/VND trades below major moving averages with strong downside momentum, expected to consolidate between ₫18,031 to ₫18,212 and little probability of near-term recovery.

Hawkish rate outlook as inflation data boosts Australian Dollar support

Stronger-than-expected Australian CPI data was released, increasing the prospect of tighter monetary policy and lending fundamental support to the Australian Dollar, according to FXStreet. The market reaction followed confirmation that inflation remained elevated, which historically influences central bank decisions and tends to raise demand for the currency. This macroeconomic backdrop underpinned the earlier positive performance for the Australian Dollar, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Persistent bearish momentum as multiple indicators confirm oversold

On the hourly chart, AUD/VND is trading below the MA-20 at ₫18,204, the MA-50 at ₫18,184, and the MA-200 at ₫18,488, with the Ichimoku Kijun at ₫18,201 now acting as immediate resistance. Downward momentum is supported by negative readings in the MACD, ADX, and Awesome Oscillator, all signaling sell conditions. At the same time, RSI, Stoch RSI, and CCI are registering oversold, highlighting the risk of a potential short-term technical rebound, but intraday Bull/Bear Power remains negative and sellers are in control.

Limited rebound potential as downside risks remain elevated

Over the next two to three sessions, AUD/VND is forecast to trade in a range between ₫18,031 and ₫18,212, representing a typical volatility band relative to current levels. The probability of a material upward reversal is very low in the current environment, while the risk of further downside breakouts remains elevated. Barring a clear move above immediate resistance, the baseline expectation is for continued sideways consolidation; a sustained drop below ₫18,031 would likely accelerate declines.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees the Australian Dollar under short-term selling pressure versus the Vietnamese Dong, despite fundamental support from stronger Australian CPI data. He believes persistent technical weakness and negative momentum indicators are dominating market action for now. However, Karapetjanc notes the current macroeconomic backdrop still favors a constructive bias. "I expect consolidation to continue, but any shift in sentiment or a clear break above resistance could trigger a swift rebound for AUD/VND."

Earlier, analysts noted that AUD/VND was entrenched in a persistent bearish trend, with downside pressure dominating the technical outlook. The current analysis reinforces this view amid ongoing technical weakness, and traders should watch for a sustained move below ₫18,031 as a trigger for renewed volatility.
