Highlights

  • GBP/INR trades above key short- and long-term moving averages but faces resistance below the medium-term trend level.
  • Short-term momentum is weakening with several indicators showing overbought or neutral readings and a 58% probability of a downward move in the next five trading days.
  • GBP/INR is expected to consolidate between ₹126.805 and ₹128.079, with breakout levels at ₹127.47 for bullish and ₹126.805 for bearish scenarios.
Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that GBP/INR shows short-term buyer strength but remains technically capped below the key 50-day moving average. He points out that a lack of supportive news flow weakens the broader case for sustained upside. Kharitonov stresses that declining momentum signals and an overbought Stochastic RSI warn of an imminent pullback. He describes the bullish undertone as fragile, with medium-term resistance likely to persist. "Without a catalyst to break resistance at ₹127.47, GBP/INR is vulnerable to reversal and sideways drift," he cautions.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, remains constructive on GBP/INR’s outlook. He highlights that the pair trades above both the 20-day and 200-day moving averages, suggesting a bullish structure remains intact. While consolidation is likely in the near term, he sees multiple setups favoring further upside should resistance at ₹127.47 give way. "Breakout above key levels could unlock additional growth, and I see GBP/INR maintaining positive momentum over the coming sessions," Karapetjanc states.
Sholanke Dele, market strategist, views current GBP/INR gains as potentially unstable. He remarks that technical resistance is firm and macro sentiment is not being bolstered by fresh news or strong fundamentals. Dele warns that weakening momentum and overbought signals overshadow today’s rise. "Traders should be wary — technical fatigue and a lack of news support raise the risk of a swift correction," he advises.

Mixed momentum signals as short-term gain stalls at resistance

GBP/INR trades above the 20-day moving average (₹126.815) and the 200-day moving average (₹127.33), but remains below the 50-day moving average (₹127.47). This setup signals short-term upside momentum alongside medium-term resistance, with long-term trend structure appearing bullish. Immediate technical levels include a ceiling at ₹127.47 and a floor at ₹127.432, reinforced by the Ichimoku Kijun at ₹126.637. Momentum indicators point to a moderate loss of upward drive as MACD and ADX issue sell signals, highlighting weakening momentum. The RSI at 48.315 is neutral, while the Stochastic RSI at 90.584 indicates overbought conditions and the CCI remains neutral. Bull/Bear Power is positive intraday but its 'Oversold' forecast suggests potential for reversal. GBP/INR gained ₹0.562 or 0.44% today, with near the session high and intraday volatility at 0.89%. Despite conflicting oscillator and momentum signals, the price action displays strength toward session highs.

Earlier, analysts noted that GBP/INR was supported by continued rupee strength and remained in a cautious technical posture despite short-term rebounds. The current analysis highlights weakening momentum and mixed signals, so traders should closely monitor the key resistance at ₹127.47 for any signs of a breakout or renewed downside risk.
