UAE Central Bank declares financial system stability amid attacks in region
UAE reassures markets as banks continue operating despite regional conflict

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates said the country’s financial system remains fully operational despite rising tensions in the Middle East. Central bank governor Khaled Mohamed Balama stated that banks, insurance companies, and financial institutions continue to function “with full efficiency and stability.”

The statement followed missile and drone attacks reported in the region earlier this week, according to Cointelegraph.

Authorities are seeking to reassure markets and confirm the resilience of the financial sector. The UAE remains a key financial hub in the region and an important base for international companies. Maintaining uninterrupted financial infrastructure is therefore strategically important.

Regulator highlights strong financial indicators

The central bank emphasized that the country’s banking system holds substantial capital and liquidity reserves. The capital adequacy ratio in the banking sector stands at about 17%, exceeding international standards. The liquidity coverage ratio has reached 146.6%, also remaining above regulatory requirements.

Total assets of the country’s banking and financial sector exceed 5.42 trillion dirhams ($1.48 trillion). According to Balama, the regulator continues to work closely with financial institutions to monitor the situation. Banks are applying modern risk management systems and business continuity plans.

Crypto companies increase security measures

The UAE has also become one of the world’s major hubs for crypto companies. More than 1,800 digital asset firms operate in the country, employing around 8,600 people. Over 600 Web3 companies are located in the DMCC free economic zone in Dubai alone.

Some crypto exchanges have already activated additional security measures amid the rising tensions. Bybit has begun security checks for employees and deployed international operational resources. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen also informed staff about the launch of emergency protocols and continuous monitoring of the situation.

UAE as a capital and crypto industry hub

In recent years, the UAE has transformed into one of the key global hubs for crypto businesses thanks to liberal regulation and active government support for technology. Dubai and Abu Dhabi have created specialized regulatory frameworks for digital assets, attracting hundreds of companies from Europe and Asia. The stability of the banking system plays a critical role in supporting this ecosystem.

Even short-term disruptions to financial infrastructure could affect global cryptocurrency markets and capital flows. Therefore, the regulator’s statements are aimed at preventing panic among investors and companies. For now, liquidity and capital indicators suggest that the banking sector is capable of withstanding external shocks.

Recently we wrote that global oil prices continue to rise amid the escalating military conflict between the United States and Iran. The main driver behind the rally is growing concern over a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical routes for global energy trade.
